Auburn DL Brenton Williams reportedly enters transfer portal
Auburn defensive lineman Brenton Williams has entered the transfer portal according to reports from 247Sports and On3.
Williams is a local to the Auburn area, having attended Opelika High School. He stayed home for his freshman year at Auburn. He redshirted this fall and played in two games while not recording any stats.
He is the first Auburn player to enter the portal with the spring transfer window opening up Tuesday.
Williams plays buck linebacker, an edge rushing position on the edge of the defensive line in new defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin’s scheme. But Auburn is largely set at the pass-rushing positions for this year with Jalen McLeod and Keldric Faulk as well as the future with freshmen like Amaris Williams and Jamonta Waller. Head coach Hugh Freeze has also made it clear Auburn plans to go after more defensive linemen during this post-spring practice portion of the transfer portal.
It didn’t leave the Opelika native with much room to work up the depth chart.
Williams was a three star recruit in the 2023 class and a 2022 AHSAA South Region All-Star as well as a Class 7A first team all-state player.
