Auburn beats out Texas A&M, Notre Dame for commitment of 2025 4-star CB Devin Williams
The Auburn Tigers picked up a win over Texas A&M, Notre Dame and the 29 other programs that offered Devin Williams as the 4-star cornerback prospect out of Georgia committed to Hugh Freeze and the Tigers Monday.
Williams had also hauled in offers from the likes of Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Ohio State and others.
Williams, who 247Sports ranks as the 14th-best cornerback prospect in the 2025 class and the 18th-ranked prospect overall, committed to the Tigers after having recently visiting The Plains for Auburn’s Junior Day on Feb. 3. That visit was the last for Williams before his commitment Monday.
According to 247Sports’ director of recruiting Steve Wiltfong, Williams had three other visits scheduled as of Feb. 15 — one to Auburn on March 16, one to Texas A&M on March 30 and one to Notre Dame on April 3.
However, as evident by Monday’s commitment, Williams didn’t want around any longer. It’s unclear whether Williams will still take those visits to Texas A&M and Notre Dame.
Prior to Monday’s commitment, Williams had recently gushed about Auburn and the relationships he was making with the Tigers’ secondary coach, Wesley McGriff, and the Tigers’ newly hired co-defensive coordinator Charles Kelly.
“I love the direction Auburn is headed,” Williams told Wiltfong. “I’ve spent considerable time with Coach McGriff and Coach Kelly. Coach McGriff and I talk twice a week and have built a really good relationship. Auburn is not afraid of the competition! Coach Freeze and staff are going after the best kids in my class and that’s the iron sharpens iron mentality! I love that! Also Coach McGriff has mentioned that he has no plans to leave Auburn. That’s huge!”
The addition of Williams gives Auburn its ninth commit of the 2025 class and the first from a defensive back.
As of Monday evening, with Williams’ commitment added, Auburn’s 2025 recruiting class ranks as the seventh-best in the nation.
