Auburn basketball to host Ivy League team in nonconference play, per report

The start of the 2022-23 season is still about six months away, but another piece to Auburn’s nonconference slate came into focus Thursday night.

Auburn will host Penn on Jan. 2, 2024 at Neville Arena, according to a report by CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein. It will mark the second all-time meeting between the Tigers and the Quakers, and the first between the two programs since the 1999-2000 season.

Auburn won the only prior matchup against Penn, defeating the Quakers 77-70 at the BJCC in Birmingham as part of the Arby’s Hardwood Classic. That season, Auburn finished with a 24-10 overall record, advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and was ranked 24th in the season’s final AP poll.

Penn is coming off a 17-13 campaign in the 2022-23 season, which was its seventh under head coach Steve Donahue. The Quakers finished third in the Ivy League but lost to second-seeded Princeton in the conference tournament semifinals and did not earn a postseason bid.

Auburn’s nonconference schedule for next season also includes the Legends Classic in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Nov. 16-17. The Tigers are part of a four-team field that also includes Oklahoma State, Notre Dame and St. Bonaventure. The matchups for that nonconference showcase have yet to be announced.
