Auburn basketball receives votes in AP top 25 poll after first week of season

After a 1-1 week to open the 2023-24 season, Auburn received five voting points in the AP Top 25 poll released Monday.

It’s a drop from the 27 voting points Auburn had in the preseason poll.

Auburn lost the season opener to Baylor in South Dakota on Tuesday before beating Southeastern Louisiana at home Friday. Auburn scored more than 80 points in both games, but allowed Baylor to come back late in the game and win.

Four voters included Auburn in their ballots, including AL.com’s Nick Alvarez. Three of the four voted Auburn at No. 25 and one voter, Steve Greenberg of the Chicago Sun-Times, had Auburn at No. 24.

Five SEC teams are ranked in the week’s poll and Mississippi State is the only SEC team above Auburn in the receiving votes category.

Auburn also received six votes in the USA Today coach’s poll.

Auburn will play Notre Dame at 8 p.m. Thursday in Brooklyn and will play either Oklahoma State or St. Bonaventure on Friday.
