Auburn basketball receives AP top 25 votes again after dismantling Indiana

Welcome back to the Associated Press poll ballots, Auburn.

After falling out of any top 25 ranking consideration entirely after a loss to Appalachian State on Dec. 3, Auburn was the fourth team out of the AP top 25 poll released Monday.

The Tigers received 57 voting points in the Week 6 poll.

Auburn got votes in this poll after it dismantled Indiana on Saturday, 104-76. It was an all-around beatdown from the Tigers over one of the sport’s blue bloods.

“As you look up and down our roster, virtually every player had a big day,” Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl said Saturday after the win. “I wouldn’t be so hard on IU for this one because I don’t know how we could play much better. We shot it well, we defended it well, we took care of the basketball. And each and every player, if you look at their numbers, played to the level of their ability on the high end.”

Auburn is now 6-2 this season. It plays two games in the upcoming week: at 7 p.m. Wednesday against UNC Asheville at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville, Alabama, and against USC at noon on Sunday at home in Neville Arena.

Computer rankings are much higher on Auburn than the voters. KenPom ranks Auburn as the No. 11 team in the country and second-best in the SEC behind the Volunteers.

Only two SEC teams are ranked this week: No. 12 Tennessee which moved up five spots, No. 14 Kentucky which moved up two spots.

Ole Miss and Texas A&M were two of the three teams ahead of Auburn in the receiving votes category.

Ole Miss, led by former Auburn guard Allen Flanigan, has been one of the biggest surprises in the nation this season, beginning the year 10-0. The Rebels and new head coach Chris Beard are the only undefeated SEC team and one of only seven remaining unbeaten teams.

Alabama and South Carolina each received votes.
