Auburn baseball promotes pair of assistant coaches
Gabe Gross and Karl Nonemaker each finished their sixth season with Auburn baseball as assistant coaches this past season.
Come their seventh season, however, Gross and Nonemaker will bear new titles after being promoted to associate head coaches by head coach Butch Thompson Monday morning.
“Gabe and Karl have been instrumental in the success of our program during their time on the Plains,” Thompson said in a release. “They have been consistently dedicated and loyal. The intention of the new titles is a desire to reflect their value to college baseball and our program. I look forward to continuing the momentum our program has created with these amazing coaches leading our student-athletes.”
Since joining the coaching staff together, Gross and Nonemaker have helped pilot the Auburn baseball program to 196 wins, four trips to regionals, three super regional berths and a pair of appearances at the College World Series.
After the Tigers’ run to the College World Series in 2022, Nonemaker was named the 2022 America Baseball Coaches Association Division I Assistant Coach of the Year, while Gross earned 2022 Alabama Baseball Coaches Association Division I Assistant Coach of the Year honors.
In addition to their on-field duties coaching the infield and serving as Auburn’s hitting coach, Nonemaker and Gross also tackle recruiting together with Nonemaker serving as the recruiting coordinator. In 2022, the tandem secured the nation’s fifth-ranked class, followed by the No. 7 class for 2023.
