Auburn baseball players honored by SEC ahead of conference tournament
Bryson Ware, Ike Irish, and Kason Howell were named to All-SEC teams Monday on the heels of the team finishing the regular season with eight straight SEC wins, Auburn’s most extended conference winning streak since 1995 when the Tigers won nine consecutive league games.
Ware plays infield and outfield for the Tigers. He was top 10 in the SEC in hits (73), runs (61), home runs (21), RBI (57), and slugging percentage (.730) while posting a career-best .358 batting average leading to making the All-SEC second team.
Ware led the Tigers in several offensive metrics in league play, including average (.333), runs (38), hits (40), home runs (12), and total bases (80). He also was named to the Golden Spikes Award midseason watch list and a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy.
Irish was named SEC Freshman of the Week Monday for the third time. He also found out that he made the SEC All-Freshman team. The Hudsonville, Michigan native was fifth in hits in the league (79), including second most for SEC freshmen and sixth among freshmen nationally.
Howell in a .993 fielding percentage this season as a centerfielder to make All-Defensive. He made one error in 149 chances and has registered three outfield assists. He is a career .989 fielder with just seven errors in his 243 games, including only four in the last three seasons.
Ware, Howell, Irish, and their No. 19 Auburn (33-19-1, 17-13 SEC) teammates led by manager Butch Thompson start the SEC Tournament Tuesday at the Hoover Met with a fourth consecutive matchup against Missouri (30-23, 10-20 SEC), who the Tigers swept last week at Plainsman Park.
