Auburn baseball lands transfer commitment from Jacksonville State infielder

Javon Hernandez, a middle infielder transferring from Jacksonville State, has committed to Auburn baseball via a tweet from his personal account Thursday.

Hernandez just completed his junior year and comes to Auburn with 94 games of collegiate experience already. His commitment comes the same week as Sam Mongelli, a transfer middle infielder who had committed to Auburn, was selected in the 2023 Major League Baseball Draft.

Primarily, Hernandez plays second base and hit .397 over 56 games last season. He had seven home runs and 49 RBIs. The right-handed hitter walked more times (33) than he struck out (29). He entered the transfer portal on June 15, according to his Twitter, following the end of the 2023 season.

Jacksonville State played Auburn in 2023. Auburn won the game and Hernandez went 0-5. He did score a run.

A Connecticut native, Hernandez began his career in junior college at UConn-Avery Point in Groton, Connecticut. In his sophomore year, Hernandez hit .462.

Auburn head coach Butch Thompson will have a reshaped infield in 2024 after Cole Foster and Bryson Ware were selected in the draft. Hernandez will be a part of a competition of new faces to get into the lineup.
