Auburn backup QB Hank Brown reportedly plans to enter transfer portal

Auburn football was already in need of a transfer quarterback following the departures of Payton Thorne and Holden Geriner. Now, that need becomes even more dire as Hank Brown is reportedly set to enter the transfer portal.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported the news on Sunday, but reports of Brown planning to hit the portal first emerged on Dec. 1.

On3 first reported Brown’s plans to enter the transfer portal, but Brown responded on social media saying, “All reports of me entering the transfer portal are not true. I have not entered the portal. Love yall! War Damn Eagle.”

Brown would not have been able to officially enter the transfer portal when he first made the post, as it does not open until Dec. 9. If Brown does leave, Auburn will be left with just two scholarship quarterbacks, making it even more important to sign at least one transfer quarterback.

On signing day, Hugh Freeze said that Auburn plans to carry four scholarship quarterbacks on its roster next season, meaning the Tigers would have to sign two in the portal to go alongside true freshman Deuce Knight and redshirt freshman Walker White.
