One of the most recent additions to Auburn’s support staff is leaving the program for an on-field coaching role with a MAC team.
RJ Fleming, who joined Auburn as an offensive analyst late last month, is expected to be named the new wide receivers coach at Toledo, according to multiple reports. On3 was first to report Fleming’s move.

What we learned about each position on Auburn’s offense this spring
Fleming spent just a few weeks on Hugh Freeze’s support staff at Auburn, joining the Tigers after resigning from his position at Jackson State on March 22. Fleming was originally hired to coach wide receivers at Jackson State in February as part of T.C. Taylor’s inaugural staff following the departure of Deion Sanders for Colorado.
Prior to his brief stints at Auburn and Jackson State, Fleming spent the 2022 season coaching running backs at Texas State under Jake Spavital. In 2021, Fleming was the wide receivers coach at Eastern Michigan, and before that he spent two years as an offensive quality control assistant on Freeze’s staff at Liberty.
Fleming began his coaching career in 2015 at Arkansas Tech as a graduate assistant. He also spent time at Trinity International before three seasons on staff at TCU as a graduate assistant. A native of Mississippi, Fleming played wide receiver at Arkansas State from 2010-13, where he was coached by Freeze during his first two seasons with the Red Wolves when Freeze was offensive coordinator (in 2010) and then head coach (2011).
