Auburn adds seventh-year senior Maryland transfer Fa’Najae Gotay to linebacker room
Hugh Freeze and the Auburn Tigers made another late addition Thursday morning, announcing they had scooped up and signed former Maryland linebacker Fa’Najae Gotay from the transfer portal.
According to On3 Sports, Gotay officially entered the transfer portal on June 10 after six — yes, six — years with the Terrapins.
When Gotay arrives to The Plains, he’ll use his COVID year of eligibility and suit up for his seventh year of college football. Gotay also received a redshirt year after appearing in just four games as a true freshman in 2018 and a medical redshirt year after sustaining a season-ending injury in Maryland’s season-opener in 2021.
Throughout his entire career at Maryland, Gotay tallied 133 total tackles, seven tackles for a loss, three sacks, a pair of interceptions and a forced fumble.
Gotay is coming off his most productive season after appearing in all 13 of Maryland’s games in 2023 and logging 44 total tackles, 4.5 tackles for a loss and 2.5 sacks. Gotay also capped off his season with a team-leading performance against Auburn in the TransPerfect Music City Bowl, where he led the Terrapins with six tackles.
Formerly rated a 3-star recruit out of North Fort Myers, Florida, Gotay signed with Maryland over the likes of other offers such as Arkansas, Appalachian State, Illinois, Liberty, Missouri, Ole Miss, Tennessee, UCF and others.
Together, Gotay and Mausi help add some experienced depth to Auburn’s linebacker room, which is set to return Eugene Asante, Austin Keys and Robert Woodyard. The Tigers’ also signed a pair of talent freshmen linebackers in Demarcus Riddick and DJ Barber.
