AT&T crediting cost of full day of service after massive outage: How much is it, who qualifies?

AT&T is offering credits to customers impacted by a massive outage that knocked out service for hours last week.

In a statement posted to its website, the service provider apologized for the outage and said it had reached out to customers impacted by the disruption. AT&T customers reported receiving texts from the company on Sunday.

“We apologize for Thursday’s outage, which may have impacted you. As a valued customer, your connection matters and we’re committed to doing better. To help make it right, we’re applying a credit to your accounts,” the text read.

The credit will be equal to roughly the amount of a day’s service. The fine print on the AT&T site said one $5 credit per account  – not per line – will be applied to AT&T Wireless accounts and won’t apply to AT&T Business, AT&T Prepaid or Cricket accounts. Credits will typically be applied automatically within two billing cycles.

“We are also working closely with our business customers and will address their concerns as the discussions take place,” AT&T’s statement said.

An initial review of the outage showed it was “due to the application and execution of an incorrect process used while working to expand our network,” and not the result of a cyberattack, the company said. The outage did not involve a third-party and there’s no indication any customer data was exposed, it added.
