Atlanta Falcons add former Auburn offensive tackle
After two seasons with the Houston Texans, former Auburn offensive tackle Kilian Zierer will seek to make his NFL regular-season debut with the Atlanta Falcons in 2025.
The Falcons announced the signing of Zierer to a reserve/future contract on Wednesday.
A player signed to a reserve/future contract can be added to an NFL team’s roster when it expands from 53 to 90 players for the offseason on March 12, the first day of the NFL’s 2025 business year. The newly signed players become eligible to participate in offseason workouts, minicamps and OTAs as team members.
After three seasons at Auburn, Zierer joined the Texans as an undrafted rookie in 2023. Because of an ankle injury, he spent the entire season on injured reserve.
This season, Zierer failed to make the Houston 53-man roster coming out of the preseason, and the Texans signed him for their practice squad. Zierer spent the entire season on the practice squad without playing in a regular-season contest.
Atlanta returns its starting tackles – Jake Matthews on the left and Kaleb McGary on the right. The Falcons’ swing tackle in 2024, Storm Norton, is eligible to become a free agent on March 12.
Zierer is the ninth Auburn alumnus to sign a reserve/future contract since the NFL regular season ended. The others who have signed include:
- Kicker Anders Carlson with the New York Jets
- Defensive tackle Marcus Harris (Park Crossing) with the New England Patriots
- Wide receiver Shedrick Jackson (Hoover) with the Las Vegas Raiders
- Cornerback DJ James (Spanish Fort) with the New England Patriots
- Outside linebacker Eku Leonta with the Pittsburgh Steelers
- Guard TaShawn Manning with the Cincinnati Bengals
- Running back DJ Williams with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- Wide receiver Seth Williams (Paul Bryant) with the Dallas Cowboys
