Atlanta Braves to face Cincinnati Reds at Bristol Motor Speedway in 2025

Major League Baseball is headed to the track next season.

The Atlanta Braves will face the Cincinnati Reds in the first “Speedway Classic” at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee in 2025, it was announced Friday. The game — which will be a Reds home game — will take place Saturday, Aug. 2 and will be broadcast by Fox Sports.

“Major League Baseball is excited to deliver a special game at Bristol Motor Speedway, a unique setting that sports fans will remember forever,” MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said. “The Reds and the Braves form an ideal matchup because of their dynamic talent and the proximity of their markets. We look forward to celebrating our game with a wide array of fans, both on and off the field throughout the weekend, and highlighting the rich traditions of sports, music and community in Tennessee and across the region.”

The Speedway Classic is the latest in a series of “off-site” events for MLB, which has played regular-season games at Fort Bragg in North Carolina (2016), in Omaha, Neb. (2019), in London, England (2019, 2023 and 2024), at the Field of Dreams in Iowa (2021 and 2022) and at Birmingham’s Rickwood Field (2024) in recent years. MLB will also return to Williamsport, Pa., for the seventh “Little League Classic” on Aug. 18.

Bristol Motor Speedway — located in extreme northeast Tennessee near the Virginia line — has hosted non-NASCAR events previously, including numerous concerts and a regular-season college football game between Tennessee and Virginia Tech in 2016. For next year’s MLB game, a baseball diamond will be built across the track and infield at the 146,000-seat venue.

“On behalf of the team at Bristol Motor Speedway and Speedway Motorsports, we are thrilled to partner with Major League Baseball to bring the Speedway Classic to the ‘Home of Big Events’ on Aug. 2, 2025,” said Jerry Caldwell, president of Bristol Motor Speedway. “There is deep baseball history in Bristol and around this area, long acknowledged as the heart of the Appalachian League.

“In addition, Bristol’s location makes it the perfect ‘meet in the middle’ destination for a showdown between these two beloved clubs. It’s only appropriate for the World’s Fastest Half-Mile to showcase this game where the talented athletes will be on display in a venue that’s reputation was built on speed and high performance.”

The Braves and Reds will play games in Cincinnati on July 31 and Aug. 1, and will hold Aug. 3 open in case of inclement weather. A pre-sale for tickets is expected to take place in September, following by a general public sale in December.
