At least 1 tornado hit Alabama this weekend

A line of severe storms that rolled through Alabama on Saturday produced at least one tornado, according to the National Weather Service.

And that number could go up later today.

The National Weather Service office in Birmingham said a brief EF-0 tornado was confirmed in Lee County following a round of severe weather on Saturday. The tornado did not cause any injuries.

The weather service office in Huntsville may head to Jackson County in northeast Alabama today to look at damage there after a tornado-warned storm moved through the area on Saturday. Damage was reported at the fire station in Rosalie and in other areas.

A line of strong to severe storms moved through part of the state on Saturday and spawned both storms being investigated.

The Lee County tornado had peak winds of 75 mph, according to the storm survey report from the weather service.

It touched down at 7:21 p.m. Saturday in the Salem area and was on the ground for 3.76 miles. It had a path width of 175 yards.

The weather service said the tornado uprooted or snapped many trees in the area, and one limb fell on a house.

More details on the Jackson County storm should be released when the weather service conducts the survey.

No severe weather is in the forecast for the state this week.
