ASWA postpones Player of the Year banquet due to winter weather

Fans will have to wait a little longer than expected to find out who wins the 2023 Mr. Football Award.

Winter weather this week has caused the Alabama Sports Writers Association to postpone its annual football Player of the Year Banquet.

The event, originally scheduled for Tuesday in Montgomery, will now be held Jan. 30. The ASWA recognizes 48 back and lineman of the year finalists in seven AHSAA classifications and the AISA and names the winners in each category.

At the banquet, which is co-sponsored by ALFA Insurance and the Alabama High School Athletic Directors and Coaches Association, the ASWA also will name its 42nd Mr. Football winner.

Snow and wintry precipitation fell on parts of north Alabama on Monday morning and could spread south and affect more of the state later today and tonight. Temperatures will be falling across the state today and will be especially cold tonight — which could cause icy spots on roads and make travel dangerous.

Here are the 48 Player of the Year finalists that will now be honored on Jan. 30 at the Montgomery Renaissance.
