ASWA high school basketball rankings feature 2 new No. 1 teams
A pair of teams are new at No. 1 in this week’s ASWA high school basketball rankings.
Class 7A Vestavia Hills and Class 2A Holly Pond took over the top spot in boys rankings while No. 1 teams in girls rankings remained the same.
Vestavia Hills beat previous Class 7A No. 1 Hoover on Tuesday in a battle of the top two ranked teams in the class.
It’s the first No. 1 ranking for the Rebels since Feb. 3, 2021 in the final poll of the 2020-2021 season.
Holly Pond moved from No. 2 to the top spot when former Class 2A top-ranked Mars Hill Bible fell to Lauderdale County on Saturday.
Other boys No. 1 teams are Class 6A Pinson Valley, Class 5A Ramsay, Class 4A Westminster Christian, Class 3A Plainview, Class 1A Covenant Christian and AISA Lee-Scott.
In girls rankings, Class 7A Hoover, Class 6A Hazel Green, Class 5A Guntersville, Class 4A Good Hope, Class 3A Trinity, Class 2A Cold Springs, Class 1A Spring Garden and AISA Edgewood Academy remained No. 1.
Five top-ranked teams are still undefeated, four in girls rankings.
Class 6A Hazel Green (25-0), Class 4A Good Hope (26-0), Class 1A Spring Garden (25-0) and AISA Edgewood Academy (21-0) have yet to lose in girls rankings while Class 6A Pinson Valley (22-0) is the only boys No. 1 team still undefeated.
