As Donald Trump’s approval rating remains underwater, support from this group is growing
Donald Trump’s negative approval rating is holding steady, according to a new poll released Tuesday, but signs are pointing up for the president among his most loyal supporters.
Trump’s approval rating is virtually unchanged from last week, with the president recording a 1 percentage-point increase in his approval — 43% — from last week’s 42%, according to the Economist/YouGov poll released Tuesday.
The president’s disapproval remained unchanged from last week at 52%, the poll found.
Trump’s approval has consistently dropped from the 49% approval he enjoyed at the start of his second term. When he was sworn in, his disapproval rating stood at 43%.
There is a silver lining for Trump amid the grim numbers: while the president has seen his approval rating decline among Democrats, Democratic-leaning independents and independents, he is surging among Republicans and Republican-leaning independents, according to the poll.
Trump had a +76 approval rating among the Republicans and Republican-leading independents at the start of his second term.
Now, the president enjoys a +87 approval rating with that group, the survey found.
On every key issue, Trump’s approval has been tanking since the start of his second term.
On jobs and the economy, the president had a +12 approval rating. Now it’s -9.
On inflation, Trump’s rating was +6. He’s now underwater by 22 percentage points.
On immigration — one of the issues that propelled Trump back into the White House — the president enjoyed a +11 approval rating. That’s now down to +4.
On abortion, Trump began his term with a -4 approval rating. That has since slid to -12.
And on crime, another issue that helped Trump win back the White House, the president started his second term with a +12 approval rating. That figure has slid three percentage points to +9 approval.
The Economist/YouGov poll surveyed 1,786 U.S. adult citizens. It has a margin of error of plus-or-minus 3.3 percentage points.
