Armed suspect fatally shot by Opelika police identified as 26-year-old Auburn man

A 26-year-old Auburn man was publicly identified Thursday as the armed suspect fatally shot by an Opelika officer over the weekend.

Tice Daequan Cobb was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident early Sunday morning at Century Park Apartments in the 1800 block of Century Boulevard in Opelika, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said Thursday.

ALEA’s state Bureau of Investigation began probing the deadly shooting Sunday at the request of Opelika police.

Officers called to the complex on a report of a suspicious incident encountered Cobb armed with a gun when an altercation ensued between an officer and Cobb.

During the altercation, the officer discharged his weapon, striking Cobb, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

No officers were injured in the incident.

ALEA did not release further details on the investigation other than to say the probe is ongoing.

The agency’s findings will be turned over to the Lee County District Attorney’s Office once complete.
