An armed man was fatally shot by law enforcement officers in Rainbow City on Wednesday.

Rainbow City police were dispatched just before noon to a report of a domestic incident on Williams Avenue in Rainbow Estates.

The incident, police said, turned into a hostage situation.

The suspect fired shots at officers. They returned fire, killing the man.

No officers were injured.

Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the scene, including the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency will lead the probe, which is standard procedure for officer-involved shootings.
