An arrest has been made in a Sept. 17 suspected road rage case in Helena that involved a couple making DoorDash deliveries with their child and a man with a gun in a golf cart getting stabbed.

Joshua Andre Crittenden, 31, is charged with assault, unlawful breaking and entering a vehicle, and menacing, Helena Police Chief Brad Flynn announced Monday morning.

Crittenden was stabbed when he entered the DoorDash couples’ vehicle and began assaulting the driver, Flynn said. The victim’s wife stabbed Crittenden to defend her husband, Flynn said.

The Jefferson County District Attorney’s Bessemer Cutoff Division issued the warrants.

“Mr. Crittenden has been notified of the charges and he is to be considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law,” Flynn said.

Police said the incident began when Helena police and fire medics learned Crittenden, suffering, several several stab wounds, walked into Fire Station #3 on South Shades Crest Road.

About the same time, officers were dispatched to South Shades Crest Road at the entrance of the Laurel Lakes subdivision on a report of a road rage incident that resulted in someone being stabbed.

A couple delivering for DoorDash called 911 to report they had been involved in a road rage incident for several miles in Jefferson County and Helena. They had a young child in the car with them.

The couple told police a vehicle pulled up closely to the rear of their vehicle while travelling on Highway 52. As they turned onto South Shades Crest Road, the vehicle continued to drive in an aggressive manner.

Both vehicles turned into the Long Leaf Lakes subdivision where the aggressive driver – a woman – then pulled up next to the couple and began screaming profanities and accusing them of not using their turn signal.

That woman’s husband then showed up at the location on a golf cart, police said. At that point, his wife – the aggressive driver – pulled a handgun and pointed it at the DoorDash couple.

Her husband then took the gun from his wife and pointed it at the couple while screaming profanities at them, police said.

The couple immediately put their vehicle in reverse to attempt to get away from the man with the gun, but their vehicle had developed an engine problem and would not go any faster than a few miles per hour.

The confrontation continued up the hill on Long Leaf Lakes Drive and back onto South Shades Crest Road since the couple were unable to drive any faster.

Just north of Helena Fire Station #3, the man approached the couple’s vehicle, reached into the rear window and began assaulting the driver, police said. He hit the man several times in his head and shoulders and ripped off his shirt.

The driver’s wife then pulled out a pocketknife and stabbed the attacker several times to get him to stop attacking her husband.

After being stabbed, the attacker walked away to the fire station to seek medical help.

The couple continued driving north on South Shades Crest Road and called 911 once they reached the Laurel Lakes subdivision entrance.
