‘Armed and dangerous’ capital murder suspect now in custody in Montgomery
A suspect sought in the shooting death of a man in Montgomery last week is now in custody.
Central Alabama Crime Stoppers on Tuesday said they were searching for 30-year-old Isaiah Gipson in the March 2 slaying of 26-year-old Fredrikis Heard.
Gipson was taken into custody Wednesday. Montgomery police and the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force had carried out the search and described Gipson as armed and dangerous.
Gipson is charged with capital murder in Heard’s slaying. Authorities have not said why the charge is capital.
Police and fire medics were dispatched at 12:45 a.m. that Thursday to the 4900 block of Hatton Avenue on a report of a person shot, said police Maj. Saba Coleman.
They found Heard wounded and took him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later. A motive has not been disclosed.
Gipson will be held without bond in the Montgomery County Detention Facility.
Montgomery has had 19 homicides so far this year. Arrests have been made in more than half of those cases.
