Argument leads to deadly shooting at south Birmingham apartment complex
An argument between two men led to fatal gunfire Wednesday evening in south Birmingham.
The shooting happened just after 5 p.m. at Adona apartments on Aspen Run.
South Precinct officers were already at the complex on an unrelated call when they heard shots fired. They encountered two men – one of them was down on the ground and another was armed.
The victim, who has not yet been identified, had collapsed on the sidewalk in front of a building. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
The officers took the man with the gun into custody for questioning.
The preliminary investigation shows both of the men are connected to a woman who lives in the complex. The woman’s brother reportedly used a rifle to fatally shoot his sister’s boyfriend.
It wasn’t immediately clear if the victim was also armed. Police marked at least 14 shell casings at the scene.
The victim is Birmingham’s third homicide in 2023. At this time last year, Birmingham had already had nine homicides.
Anyone with information is asked to call Birmingham homicide detectives at 205-254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
