Argument between 2 women ends with 1 critically shot, 1 in custody: Birmingham police

A woman suffered life-threatening injuries Friday night when she was shot by another woman at a Norwood apartment complex, Birmingham police said.

North Precinct officers were dispatched to the 3200 block of 17th Avenue North on a report of a person shot just before 7 p.m. Friday, said Officer Truman Fitzgerald.

Officers found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound at the complex, Fitzgerald said.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service personnel took the woman to UAB Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

The preliminary investigation revealed the victim was involved in a verbal argument with another woman.

“We believe the second adult female shot our victim,” Fitzgerald said.

Officers detained the woman they suspect shot the victim and an adult male for questioning by felony assault and homicide detectives.

Police believe the victim and the suspect know each other.

“We believe that both women possibly share a child in common with a separate adult male,” Fitzgerald said.

Detectives are also looking to question that second man, the officer said.
