Antonio Langham entering College Football Hall of Fame
The SEC’s representation in the College Football Hall of Fame grew by two on Monday with the inclusion of Kentucky quarterback Tim Couch and Alabama cornerback Antonio Langham in the Class of 2024.
With Couch and Langham, there are now 104 former SEC players in the College Football Hall of Fame.
Couch, who played at Kentucky from 1996 through 1998, made the Class of 2024 in his 11th consecutive appearance on the ballot for the College Football Hall of Fame.
As a senior, Couch set SEC records for pass completions with 400, passing yards with 4,275, completion percentage at .723 and yards of total offense at 4,151. He became the first SEC player with more than 4,000 yards of total offense in a season.
Couch finished fourth in the 1998 Heisman Trophy balloting and was the first player selected in the 1999 NFL Draft.
Langham, who played at Alabama from 1990 through 1993, was a unanimous All-American and the winner of the Jim Thorpe Award as the nation’s best defensive back in 1993.
The previous season, the three-time All-SEC selection’s interception return for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter had lifted Alabama to a 28-21 victory in the first SEC Championship Game, sending the Crimson Tide on to a matchup with undefeated Miami (Fla.) in the Sugar Bowl for the national championship.
The former Hazlewood High School star holds the Alabama career record with 19 interceptions.
The National Football Foundation announced the College Football Hall of Fame Class of 2024 on Monday afternoon.
Two other SEC programs placed players in the Class of 2024, but Arkansas defensive tackle Dan Hampton and Texas A&M cornerback Kevin Smith played before those schools joined the conference. Hampton played for the Razorbacks from 1975 through 1978, and Smith played for the Aggies from 1988 through 1991.
