Anthony Schwartz among Sundayâs cuts in the NFL
Wide receiver Anthony Schwartz will not play for the Cleveland Browns during the 2023 NFL season.
The Browns waived the former third-round pick from Auburn after two seasons in Cleveland, during which he had 14 receptions for 186 yards and one touchdown and ran 10 times for 96 yards and one touchdown in 25 games.

The Browns waived Schwartz with an injury designation. That means if another team does not claim Schwartz off the waiver wire by 3 p.m. CDT Monday, he will revert to Cleveland’s injured reserve.
That will sideline him for the 2023 season as far as the Browns are concerned. Schwartz still could play this year if Cleveland releases him with an injury settlement, which would allow him to sign with another team when healthy.
Schwartz missed the preseason finale on Saturday because of a hamstring injury. In the Browns’ first three preseason games, he had five receptions for 40 yards and 2 yards on two rushing attempts.
Schwartz was among four players with Alabama football roots waived by Cleveland on Sunday. The NFL’s transactions list for Sunday showed eight players from Alabama high schools and colleges who were cut as teams reduce their 90-player preseason rosters to the regular-season limit of 53. The deadline to reach a 53-player active roster is 3 p.m. CDT Tuesday.
In addition to Schwartz, the NFL-reported transactions involving players with Alabama football roots on Sunday included:
· The Cleveland Browns waived linebacker Cam Bright (Park Crossing).
· The New York Giants waived offensive tackle Korey Cunningham (Montevallo).
· The Indianapolis Colts released running back Kenyan Drake (Alabama).
· The Indianapolis Colts waived guard Emil Ekiyor (Alabama).
· The Buffalo Bills waived safety Jared Mayden (Alabama).
· The Cleveland Browns waived tight end Miller Forristall (Alabama).
· The Cleveland Browns waived wide receiver Jalen Wayne (Spanish Fort, South Alabama).
Drake is a seven-season NFL veteran, and Cunningham has played in five NFL seasons.
Mayden has played in six NFL regular-season games since entering the league undrafted in 2020, and Forristall has played in six since entering the league undrafted in 2021.
Bright, Ekiyor and Wayne were trying to catch on as undrafted rookies.
