Another record high in Alabama on Saturday

Alabama’s spring preview continued on Saturday, with one city setting a record high temperature and the rest of the state feeling temperatures at least 15 degrees above average.

Montgomery reached 82 degrees on Saturday, which broke the record of 81 set in 1957, according to the National Weather Service.

Montgomery’s temperature on Saturday was 19 degrees above the average for Feb. 8.

Montgomery also tied its record high on Friday when it hit 81 degrees.

A few other Alabama cities came within a degree or two of records as well, according to data from the weather service:

* Anniston: 78 degrees, 20 degrees above average (record is 80 in 1957)

* Birmingham: 78 degrees, 20 degrees above average (record is 83 degrees in 1918)

* Huntsville: 73 degrees, 18 degrees above average (record is 79 degrees in 1937)

* Mobile: 79 degrees, 15 degrees above average (record is 80 degrees in 1969)

* Muscle Shoals: 76 degrees, 21 degrees above average (record is 78 degrees in 1937)

* Tuscaloosa: 80 degrees, 21 degrees above average (record is 84 degrees in 1957)

Temperatures are expected to be cooler for north Alabama on Sunday, thanks to increased chances for clouds and rain. The weather service is expecting temperatures to only reach the 50s over that region on Sunday.

South-central and south Alabama are expected to stay very warm, however, with highs again forecast to climb well into the 70s.

More warm weather is expected to continue into next week, but it may not be record warm thanks to increased chances for more rain, according to forecasters.

In fact, some parts of the state could get up to 5 inches over the next week, according to forecasters.
