Another Alabama school system monitoring threats after Georgia shooting

Montgomery Public School officials said Sunday they are aware of recent social media posts suggesting a potential threat to their schools.

They say they have activated all safety precautions while working with local law enforcement to identify those involved and to take appropriate action.

Montgomery Public Schools will operate on their regular schedules.

It is the latest threat involving Alabama public schools in the days since a shooting at a Georgia high school on Wednesday left four dead and nine injured.

Eufaula City Schools canceled all classes and after-school activities Thursday after receiving a “threat of violence,” officials said.

The high school football game between Eufaula and Montgomery Catholic was moved from Thursday to Saturday due to threat of violence.

Walker County officials announced an “increased security presence” at Oakman area schools Thursday following threats made on social media.

Enterprise High School and Enterprise Career & Technology Center were placed on a lockdown Thursday after school resource officers found ammunition on a student, police said. No weapon was found.

Leeds Police Chief Paul Irwin on Thursday said “a student make a comment on social media that we take very serious because the Leeds Police Department’s top priority is our dedication to protect everyone in Leeds, Alabama. This student was taken into custody and will not be returning to our school system. There is no threat to our students and we will be providing extra personnel.”
