Anita Baker concert in Birmingham rescheduled to 2024
Anita Baker fans planning to see the platinum-selling artist’s “The Songstress” tour at the BJCC’s Legacy Arena in Birmingham will have to wait four more months.
The BJCC announced the concert, originally set to hit the arena on Oct. 28, has been rescheduled for Feb. 16, 2024, at 8 p.m. The venue posted the news on its social media accounts.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, Anita Baker’s performance originally scheduled for October 28, 2023, has been postponed to February 16, 2024,” the announcement said. “All tickets will be honored on the new date. If you are unable to use your tickets for the new date, refunds will be available at the original point of purchase.”
Ticketmaster emailed customers who purchased tickets through the website, noting they have until Oct. 25 to request a refund. To be eligible for the refund, you must have purchased the tickets through Ticketmaster and not have transferred, posted or sold them.
Those who acquired tickets via transfer must transfer them back to the original purchaser in order for the ticketholder to take advantage of the refund offer. “The Songtress” tour event list on Ticketmaster now shows the rescheduled date.
The original date of “The Songstress” tour was the same day as the 82nd annual Magic City Classic, the historic football rivalry between the Alabama A&M University Bulldogs and the Alabama State University Hornets. The game at Birmingham’s Legion Field game usually kicks off at 2:30 p.m., followed by a concert immediately after the game on the field’s 50-yard line. The night of the Classic traditionally includes a number of post-game festivities and parties.
So far, it seems like the rescheduled date may come as a relief for concert hopefuls who also have plans to attend Saturday evening’s Classic events.
“I would much rather it not be on classic weekend anyway,” wrote one user in a comment on the BJCC’s announcement on Facebook.
“Somebody must’ve told Auntie it was classic weekend,” another commenter humorously wrote.
As of Oct. 18, a glance at the seating map for Baker’s concert at the BJCC shows a relatively full concert hall with more than 200 seats available.
Baker last graced the BJCC stage in 2008, performing for a modest crowd clustered on the floor and in the lower tier of the Legacy Arena’s semicircle. Her 90-minute setlist included “Caught Up in the Rapture,” “Sweet Love,” “No One in the World” and “You Bring Me Joy.”
In an August post on the social media platform X, the Grammy-winning artist noted the years since she last performed in the Magic City.
Baker’s fans stand ready to welcome the legendary songstress whenever she arrives in Birmingham.
“I’ll be there whenever you show up,” wrote one user on the BJCC’s Facebook post. “I’m dancing to your music everyday until.”
Anita Baker’s stop in Nashville has also been rescheduled until next year. “The Songstress Tour” was originally set for Oct. 26 at Bridgestone Arena. The new date is February 26, 2024.
