Anastasia Gilley, missing pregnant Florida teen, found dead in Alabama; suspect in custody

A pregnant Florida teen missing for one week is believed to have been found dead early this morning in Alabama.

Anastasia Gilley, 19, was last seen at her Jackson County, Florida, home on May 3. She was four months pregnant.

Her sister posted on Facebook that someone heard her scream near her home about 10:30 p.m. that Wednesday and she had not been heard from or seen since then.

Her phone, purse and other personal belongings were found at her home. Also, her sister said, she didn’t show up for work and missed a doctor appointment.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office this morning said their investigators, along with the Houston County Sheriff’s Office, have been working around the clock since they received the missing person report.

“The investigation quickly led to the arrest of an Alabama man, who has been in custody since earlier this week,’’ the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

“The suspect has been uncooperative throughout this entire investigation.”

The suspect has not been identified nor have formal charges been announced.

Authorities said information gathered through interviews and other investigative techniques led law enforcement to various locations in Houston and Jackson counties.

Earlier today, a body believed to be Gilley was found near Headland in Houston County.

“This is a large, multi-state investigation, and is ongoing, but a suspect is in custody and is not a threat to the public,’’ the sheriff’s office wrote.

“As this tragedy continues to unfold, (Jackson County) Sheriff Edenfield and Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza extend their deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victim,’’ the press release stated.

“Sheriff Edenfield would also like to thank everyone who has assisted and continues to assist in this investigation.”
