American Family Care names Randy Johansen as new CEO

Randy Johansen is the new CEO of Birmingham’s American Family Care.

Johansen, who has been with the company since 1992, has served as president. He succeeds company founder Dr. Donald Bruce Irwin, who died in April.

A 40-year veteran of the healthcare industry, Johansen began with the company as COO. During his time, he has seen the company grow into the AFC network, serving 28 states with more than 300 locations.

Johansen said he assumed the role “with mixed emotions.”

“While I feel profound sadness for the circumstances that led to this transition following the passing of Dr. Irwin, I am deeply honored to step into the position,” he said. “We are blessed with an exceptional team, and together, we are committed to propelling AFC to new heights while upholding Dr. Irwin’s enduring legacy of delivering accessible and affordable quality medical care to our patients.”

Johansen said the company has more than 100 clinics in the pipeline to open in the near future, expanding into three new states.

“I am thrilled and optimistic about AFC’s future. Our momentum continues to surge as we consistently achieve growth and expansion,” Johansen said. “This remarkable growth reaffirms our commitment to providing unparalleled healthcare services to communities across the country.”
