American Car Center shuts down business, locations across Alabama
Used automobile retailer American Car Center has closed its doors at all locations, including its headquarters.
In an email to employees Friday, the company announced it was shutting down its operations and laying off its workers, according to Fortune. The company employed more than 300 at its Memphis offices.
The email came a day after the company pulled a $222 million bond sale from the market, as it had been working to improve liquidity and continue operations.
The company had locations in Birmingham, Dothan, Florence, Huntsville, Montgomery, Pelham and Tuscaloosa, as well as two in Mobile.
The first American Car Center opened in Memphis in 2000 and had 50 dealerships in 10 states across the Southeast, according to its website, which was still active Monday afternoon.
