American Car Center closing: How to make your payments
Consumers who bought their vehicles through American Car Center were left in limbo after the dealership closed all of its locations on Friday.
In an email to employees, the company announced it was shutting down its operations and laying off all of its workers, according to Fortune. The company employed more than 300 at its Memphis offices alone.
The email came a day after the company pulled a $222 million bond sale from the market, as it had been working to improve liquidity and continue operations.
American Car Center had locations in Birmingham, Dothan, Florence, Huntsville, Montgomery, Pelham and Tuscaloosa, as well as two in Mobile, as well as 50 dealerships in 10 states. Some of its employees have filed suit, seeking back pay and benefits, according to WREG in Memphis.
Late Tuesday, the company website gave a series of instructions to customers on how to continue making payments. It cautioned that American Financial is not able to accept payments through a live representative.
Customers can still pay online through the payment portal at www.amfinancial.com.
They may also pay by phone at (877) 720-4477.
Payments will also be accepted in person at a CheckFreePay location. Those can be located at www.checkfreepay/agentlocator.com.
Further updates will come through the website.
