American Airlines launches inaugural nonstop flight from Birmingham to NYC
Passengers of American Airlines heading from Birmingham to New York City Sunday morning were treated to coffee and snacks ahead of the airline’s inaugural nonstop flight to New York.
New York is American Airline’s seventh nonstop destination available from Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport. It is the second airline to offer nonstop flights to NYC, following Delta.
“We are excited that American is showing such confidence in this market,” Darlene Wilson, Board Chair of the Birmingham Airport Authority, wrote in a press release. “We know customers want more choice when they fly and we continue to work on giving them that.”
Passengers are headed to LaGuardia Airport in New York City and departed just after 6:00 a.m. A returning flight will depart from LaGuardia around 7:30 p.m. and is expected to arrive in Birmingham at about 9:15 p.m.
“This schedule is ideal for business travelers and anyone who wants to take in the Big Apple by day and still get home that evening,” a press release for the Birmingham Airport Authority read.
American Airlines also offers nonstop flights from Birmingham to Charlotte, North Carolina, Chicago, Illinois, Dallas, Texas, Miami, Florida, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Washington D.C. The airline said they will offer 19 daily departures from Birmingham this summer.
