The Buffalo Bills have acquired five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Amari Cooper in a trade with the Cleveland Browns, the NFL team announced on Tuesday.

The former Alabama All-American is headed to Buffalo with a sixth-round choice in the 2025 NFL Draft in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and a seventh-round selection in the 2026 NFL Draft, the Bills reported.

Cooper had been the subject of trade rumors since the preseason, when he was linked to the San Francisco 49ers. As recently as last week, Cooper was being asked about speculation linking him to the Kansas City Chiefs.

In the final season of his current contract, Cooper comes to Buffalo with 24 receptions for 250 yards and two touchdowns in six games for the Browns, who have won only one game.

Buffalo leads the AFC East with a 4-2 record, even after trading their top receiver, Stefon Diggs, to the Houston Texans in the offseason.

The Bills’ top wide receiver this season, Khalil Shakir, has 20 receptions for 249 yards and two touchdowns.

“We’re thankful to have him, but it’s never about just one guy,” Bills coach Sean McDermott said. “It’s about the team. We’re anxious to get him on board here and get rolling. …

“I think it just adds to our flavor on offense. We’ve been doing some good things, and I think that’ll be an added bonus as we move forward.”

In his 10th NFL season, Cooper has 691 receptions for 9,736 yards and 62 touchdowns, with seven 1,000-yard receiving seasons.

Cooper comes to the Bills on the same day that one of Buffalo’s AFC East rivals, the New York Jets, announced they had acquired six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Davante Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders.

This is the third time that Cooper has been traded.

The Oakland Raiders, who selected Cooper with the fourth choice in the 2015 NFL Draft, received a first-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft from the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for the wide receiver on Oct. 22, 2018.

Two seasons after signing Cooper to a five-year, $100 million contract, the Cowboys traded Cooper and a sixth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft to the Browns for a fifth- and sixth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft on March 11, 2022.

Cleveland converted $18.79 million of the $20 million base salary for the final season on Cooper’s contract into a signing bonus in July after the wide receiver had held out during the Browns’ offseason program, so Cooper will cost the Bills $806,667 for the remainder of the season.
