Alvin Henderson ends historic high school career as a three-time 1A Back of the Year

New Auburn running back coach Micheal Spurlock was in attendance with several Auburn football representatives at the 2024 ASWA Players of the Year banquet.

With six future Tigers nominated for Back and Lineman of the Year, four-star running back Alvin Henderson made history winning 1A Back of the Year for a third time.

“It was very important for my future coaches to be here for us,” Henderson said. “The new RB coach [Micheal Spurlock] was here, and it felt great to see them take the time out of their day to attend.”

During his time at Elba High, Henderson rushed for 10,766 yards, according to MaxPreps, becoming the AHSAA’s all-time leading rusher. He rushed for 3,456 yards and 61 touchdowns during his senior season.

Wrapping up his high school career with 46 100-yard games and setting 15 state records. Henderson was also named the Alabama MaxPreps player of year.

“It feels good. I had a lot of great players sitting at my table that also had exceptional seasons too,” Henderson said. “I’m blessed to say that I have won this award three years in a row.”

Henderson is now enrolled at Auburn and preparing for a 2025 freshman campaign.

Since flipping from Penn State last summer, the fifth-ranked running back in the 2025 class has huge plans for his time in the Plains.

“I want Auburn fans to know they are getting a workhorse,” Henderson said. “I’m coming in ready to work. Being in the Lockeroom with the guys already, everything at Auburn is about to change.”

Henderson will make his Auburn debut during the Spring football game Saturday, April 12 inside Jordan-Hare Stadium.
