Allman Betts Family Revival brings Mobileâs Jimmy Hall home for the holidays
For most of the stops on the itinerary, the name of the Allman Betts Family Revival says it all. But that’s not true of the upcoming date in Mobile.
That occasion stands to be something particularly special. It’s not just a celebration of the linked musical legacies of Gregg Allman and Dickie Betts. It’s also a rare hometown show for Wet Willie frontman Jimmy Hall, who’s part of this year’s lineup.
Here’s what you need to know:
The Mission
According to promotional materials, this Allman Betts Family Revival tour traces its roots back to a 2017 concert at the Fillmore in San Francisco, a celebration of the late Gregg Allman’s life and music. It was called the Allman Family Revival until this year, when the name was changed to reflect the involvement of Duane Betts alongside Devon Allman and a shared focus on the music of their fathers. Each performance is broken into two sets. One features the music of Gregg Allman, the singer-songwriter known for his work with the Allman Brothers Band and a subsequent solo career. The other showcases the music of Dickey Betts, the songwriter and guitarist whose influential work with the Allman Brothers Band was augmented by a variety side projects.
