All-AFC selections feature 6 with Alabama football roots

For the second season in a row, Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill has been chosen by the Pro Football Writers of America for its All-NFL team.

Hill led the NFL with 1,799 receiving yards and 13 touchdown receptions as he caught 119 passes during the 2023 season. The Dallas Cowboys’ CeeDee Lamb joined Hill as the PFWA’s All-NFL wide receivers.

A former West Alabama standout, Hill was the only player from an Alabama high school or college to receive All-NFL recognition from the PFWA for the 2023 season.

But in making the PFWA’s All-AFC team for the fourth season in a row, Hill was joined by five players with Alabama football roots.

The Houston Texans’ Nico Collins (Clay-Chalkville) joined Hill as the All-AFC wide receivers.

The Tennessee Titans’ Derrick Henry (Alabama) joined the Dolphins’ Rakeem Mostert as the All-AFC running backs. Both All-NFL running backs came from the NFC – the San Francisco 49ers’ Christian McCaffrey and Los Angeles Rams’ Kyren Williams.

The New York Jets’ Quinnen Williams (Wenonah, Alabama) joined the Kansas City Chiefs’ Chris Jones as the All-AFC defensive tackles. Jones made the All-NFL team, too, along with the Rams’ Aaron Donald.

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ Josh Allen (Abbeville) joined the Pittsburgh Steelers’ T.J. Watt as the All-AFC outside linebackers. Watt made the All-NFL team, too, along with the Cowboys’ Micah Parsons.

The Denver Broncos’ Patrick Surtain II (Alabama) joined the New York Jets’ Sauce Gardner as the All-AFC cornerbacks. Gadner made the All-NFL team, too, along with the Cowboys’ DaRon Bland at cornerback.

Williams and Surtain were All-AFC selections by the PFWA last season, too.
