ALDOT to let bids next month on $35-40 million Memorial Parkway overpass project

The Alabama Department of Transportation will seek bids on a long-awaited $35-40 million Memorial Parkway overpass project in February.

The project will extend the parkway, including service roads and mainline, up to Mastin Lake Road, and includes construction of an overpass at Mastin Lake Road, ALDOT spokesman Seth Burkett said.

The Huntsville City Council will vote on agreements with ALDOT for the project at its meeting Thursday, city Communication Director Kelly Schrimsher said.

Construction is expected to begin as early as May.

“It may take about two months to award the contract and get notice to proceed,” Burkett said. “They are still in the process of some cable/telecom utility relocations, so whether those are moved before the contractor is ready to mobilize could be a factor.”

Burkett said ALDOT held public involvement meetings on the project in 2015. Clearing and structure removal was completed in 2020.
