Alaska interested in Tua Tagovailoa in 2022

One state’s internet users visited the player page of Tua Tagovailoa on pro-football-reference.com more than they did the page of any other NFL player past or present in 2022.

The state wasn’t Hawaii, where Tagovailoa grew up

The state wasn’t Alabama, where Tagovailoa was an All-American.

The state wasn’t Florida, where Tagovailoa is the quarterback for the Miami Dolphins.

The state was Alaska.

According to pro-football-reference.com end-of-year statistics, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, a teammate of Tagovailoa’s for two seasons at Alabama, also topped the page views in one state. But, again, it wasn’t Alabama. Hurts was No. 1 in Oklahoma, where he played for the Sooners in the 2019 season after transferring from the Crimson Tide.

Alabama visitors to pro-football-reference.com made Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson’s page their most-viewed, aligning with fans in Maryland and Utah.

The NFL player who was No. 1 in the most states in 2022 was Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady in 28.

The NFL team page viewed the most by Alabama visitors to the web site belonged to the New York Jets, who have nine players from Alabama high schools and colleges on its current roster and whose most famous player, quarterback Joe Namath, is an Alabama alumnus.

The second-most traffic for an NFL player page on a single day occurred on March 23, when fans flocked to check out the stats of former West Alabama standout Tyreek Hill as the Kansas City Chiefs traded the wide receiver to the Miami Dolphins.

Hoops fans in Alabama visiting basketball-reference.com were doubly unique with a couple of head-scratchers in 2022. The most-viewed player page belonged to Rolando Blackmon, a former Kansas State star from New York who played his final NBA game in 1994. The most-viewed NBA team page belonged to the Detroit Pistons, who weren’t even the most-viewed team in their home state of Michigan.

Nationally among NBA players, Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James led the most states with 26.

Baseball fans in Alabama visiting baseball-reference.com were as understandable as the state’s basketball fans were confusing. The most-viewed player page was that of Atlanta Braves first baseman Matt Olson and the most-viewed MLB team page was that of the Braves.

The MLB player page that was No. 1 in the most states was that of St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols, who led in 25.
