Alabster man ejected, killed in Sunday morning Shelby County crash

An Alabaster man was killed in a morning crash in Shelby County.

Alabama State Troopers identified the victim as James J. Mitchell. He was 49.

The wreck happened at 6:45 a.m. on Alabama 25 near Shelby County 7, about three miles south of Wilsonville.

Senior Trooper Brandon Bailey said Mitchel was driving a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck that the left the road, struck a cable box and then a tree.

Mitchell was not using a seat belt, Bailey said, and was thrown from the truck.

He was airlifted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham where he later died.

The investigation is ongoing by troopers.
