Alabowl? Alabanza Watch Allstate executives try to present Sugar Bowl trophy to Crimson Tide

Perhaps it was the excitement of the moment.

Maybe, the New Year’s celebration started early.

Either way, it didn’t go unnoticed after Alabama defeated Kansas State 45-20 in the Sugar Bowl when during the trophy presentation, a couple of Allstate representatives identified the Crimson Tide in very unique ways.

Allstate Sugar Bowl president Lloyd Frischhertz congratulated the winning team and identified them twice as the “Alabowl Crimson Tide.”

The slip-ups are harmless, of course, but unusual considering how frequent the Tide has visited New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl.

As reported by AL.com, the Tide has made 17 Sugar Bowl appearances. The Crimson Tide has four more appearances in the game than any other program. Alabama also holds the Sugar Bowl record with 10 victories, and its seven losses are tied with LSU for the most in that category. Alabama most recently played in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1, 2018, when it defeated Clemson 24-6 in a CFP semifinal game.

Bryce Young passed for 321 yards and five touchdowns, and No. 5 Alabama responded to an early two-score deficit with 35 straight points to defeat No. 11 Kansas State 45-20 in the Sugar Bowl. A number of NFL-bound college stars sat out bowl game but the best prospects played for the Crimson Tide and Wildcats and were at the center of a number of memorable plays.

Kansas State running back Deuce Vaughn had an 88-yard touchdown run.

Alabama’s Jordan Battle and Brian Branch both had interceptions. Youngs TD passes went to five different receivers.
