Alabaster school damaged after fire, moves classes remote
A fire broke out in a classroom at Alabaster’s Thompson Intermediate School Saturday evening, officials say.
Fourth- and fifth-grade students will learn online April 24-26 while damage is cleaned up, according to the district.
Third-party crews arrived Saturday to begin repairing smoke damage.
The school plans to return to normal operations Thursday, April 27.
“We appreciate the incredibly swift, professional actions of the Alabaster Fire Department, the City of Alabaster and the students passing by TIS Saturday evening who noticed the smoke and called authorities,” the school district wrote on Facebook on Sunday.
