Alabama's top 10 NFL receivers: Jaylen Waddle jumps in

Alabama’s top 10 NFL receivers: Jaylen Waddle jumps in

Another injury-affected season limited Julio Jones to adding 299 receiving yards to his career total but didn’t affect his firm grasp on the top spot among Alabama alumni in that stat.

But behind Jones, players were moving up in the top 10 for NFL career receiving yards for former Crimson Tide pass-catchers.

With 1,160 receiving yards for the Cleveland Browns in the 2022 season, Amari Cooper passed two Pro Football Hall of Fame members – Don Hutson and Ozzie Newsome — to rank second to Jones on the Alabama list.

With 1,356 receiving yards for the Miami Dolphins, Jaylen Waddle led all Tide alumni this season. With the 1,015 receiving yards of his rookie campaign, Waddle has jumped to seventh on the Alabama NFL career list in only two seasons.

Another new name in the Alabama top 10 for NFL career receiving yards is at No. 8 after Jerry Jeudy had 972 in 2022.

The addition of Waddle and Jeudy pushed Kevin Turner and O.J. Howard out of the top 10.

A third former Alabama player had a 1,000-yard receiving season in 2022. DeVonta Smith’s 1,196 for the Philadelphia Eagles moved him 13 yards out of 10th place after two NFL seasons.

Former Alabama players have produced 20 1,000-yard seasons in the NFL. Jones has seven, Cooper six, Newsome and Waddle two apiece and Hutson, Smith and Calvin Ridley one each.

During the 2022 regular season, 16 Alabama alumni caught 569 passes for 6,781 yards and 44 touchdowns.
