Alabama’s path to SEC championship set as 2023 tournament schedule released
No. 2 Alabama has a six-day break before its next game. It’ll play the winner of Mississippi State versus Florida after winning the regular season conference title and earning a two-round bye.
The Tide’s men’s basketball team will play in Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena at 12 p.m. CT on Friday, March 10. Should they win, the semifinals will be at noon on Saturday, March 11 and the championship on Sunday, March 12. All of Alabama’s games will air on ESPN.
Earlier Saturday, the Tide fell at Texas A&M, 67-61. It made seven of its 36 3-point attempts. The Aggies are the No. 2 seed. Missouri and Kentucky round out the top four. Should Alabama reach the championship it could potentially face the Wildcats or seven-seed Auburn, among others.
Alabama’s last four games have been decided by 16 total points. The Crimson Tide are amid a shooting slump as well. The rest from Saturday’s loss to Texas A&M to the quarterfinals of the Southeastern Conference tournament is a “needed” one for the Crimson Tide according to coach Nate Oats.
“Yeah, it is,” Oats said when asked if his team’s shooting slump is concerning. “The way we play it certainly helps to make shots. I didn’t realize it was that…we’re 25 out of 116 in the last four games? Not shocking, I knew we haven’t shot it well but we’ve got a week, six days before we play again. We’ll get back in the gym and get it fixed.”
