Alabama football head coach Nick Saban was on a mission when he entered the media room in Mal Moore Athletics Facility on Wednesday. Saban has spoken in the past of how he uses press conferences to get a message across to his Crimson Tide team.

Wednesday was no exception.

“OK,” Saban said once he took the microphone. “Y’all ready for a lecture?”

The topic?

“The importance of nothing.”

Ahead of Alabama’s Saturday matchup with Arkansas, a game the Crimson Tide is favored in, Saban wanted to get a point across about how hard his players should be working.

“You get up every day, you’re entitled to nothing,” Saban said. “Nobody owes you nothing. You could have talent, but if you don’t have discipline, if you don’t execute, you don’t focus, you get nothing. If you’re complacent, and not paying attention to detail, what does that get you? Nothing.”

Alabama will be looking to move to 4-0 in SEC play with a victory against Arkansas. The Tide will face a Razorback squad that has struggled throughout the season, but can still present a threat with quarterback KJ Jeffreson and running back Rocket Sanders.

To conclude his Wednesday lecture, Saban explained what he wanted to see going forward.

“Nothing is acceptable but your best,” Saban said. “We need to be — everything is determined by what you do and you trying to be your best, so that you can build on positive performance. That’s the only thing. There should be nothing else but that, for everybody. That’s what we have to stay focused on. It’s what we need to do. We got rained out today, so we had to go inside. We need to not accept anything but our best in terms of what we’re doing for preparation.”

Alabama and Arkansas are scheduled to face off at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The game will be aired on ESPN.
