Alabama’s NFL single-season bests

Alabama’s NFL single-season bests

Green Bay Packers end Don Hutson set an NFL record by catching 17 touchdown passes in 1942. Eighty seasons later, that total still ranks as the most touchdown receptions for an Alabama alumnus in a single NFL campaign.

It’s also the oldest surviving single-season superlative among Crimson Tide alumni in the NFL.

In 2021, four of the Alabama’s best seasons were surpassed. But in 2022, there were only near-misses.

Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs led the NFL in rushing yards with 1,653 in 2022. With 400 receiving yards, too, Jacobs totaled 2,053 yards from scrimmage, not quite enough to surpass the 2,141 accumulated by running back Derrick Henry for the Tennessee Titans in 2020.

Another runner-up showing occurred in tackles for loss, with Washington Commanders defensive tackle Daron Payne recording 18 in 2022. That’s second on the Alabama list to the 21 registered by Washington defensive tackle Cornelius Griffin in 2004.

But that’s only since 1999. Not all individual stats have been recorded for all or most of the NFL’s existence. The sack records date from 1960, tackles from 1987, solo tackles from 1994 and tackles for loss, forced fumbles and passes defended from 1999.

With those limitations, here are the single-season bests for Alabama alumni in the NFL:
