Alabama’s first severe storms of 2023 possible on Tuesday
Strong to severe storms will be possible in Alabama this week, according to forecasters.
Rain and storms will be possible starting on Monday, but the potential for strong storms will peak on Tuesday as a cold front approaches the state.
NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center has a Level 2 out of 5 risk for severe weather for all but the southeast corner of Alabama for Tuesday.
A Level 2 risk, or slight risk, means that scattered severe storms will be possible.
Isolated severe storms will also be possible in southeast Alabama, where there will also be a Level 1 severe weather risk on Tuesday.
The National Weather Service said tornadoes, wind gusts up to 60 mph, hail and localized flooding will be possible with the strongest storms.
The “prime time” for storms will be Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday night.
Rain could linger into Wednesday, and there will be a risk for localized flooding, according to the weather service.
Drier weather and more seasonable temperatures will return to Alabama on Thursday, with high temperatures ranging from the upper 40s in north Alabama to the 50s in central Alabama to the upper 50s or low 60s in south Alabama.
Expect temperatures to warm up a little by next weekend, forecasters said.
