Alabama’s Chris Braswell chosen by Tampa Bay Buccaneers in NFL Draft
Alabama football saw its second edge linebacker of the year come off the board Friday in the NFL Draft’s second round. Chris Braswell was taken No. 57 overall by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Braswell joined fellow Crimson Tide edge Dallas Turner, who was taken eighth overall by the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday. With Will Anderson going to the Houston Texans last season, that makes three Alabama edge-rushers who have gone in the first two rounds of the past two drafts.
Speaking after Alabama’s pro day, Braswell described the versatility he hopes to bring to the Buccaneers.
“I can play edge,” the Baltimore native said. “Outside linebacker. I play a little 4i (technique), I play a little stack backer, so pretty versatile. Whatever the need me at, I can play.”
Braswell spent much of his Alabama career sitting behind Anderson on the depth chart. However, once the NFL’s reigning defensive rookie of the year headed to the league, he was ready to shine opposite Turner.
He was named second-team all-SEC for his efforts in 2023. The 6-foot-3, 255-pound Braswell finished the year with eight sacks, along with 42 tackles.
Braswell also forced three fumbles and had an interception. He declared for the draft following the year, which was his third in Tuscaloosa.
The Buccaneers finished last season 9-8. Braswell became the second Alabama player off the board in the second round on Friday, joining Kool-Aid McKinstry, who was taken at No. 41 by the New Orleans Saints.
