Alabama’s Bryce Young on why he canceled remaining pre-draft visits and his critics
Bryce Young explained Wednesday why he canceled his remaining pre-draft visits leading up to next week’s NFL Draft, and it may not be why you think.
Young had visits with the Carolina Panthers and Houston Texans. However, he canceled remaining meetings. The Alabama quarterback, who appeared on ESPN’s “First Take,” said it was simply about focusing on being ready for the draft.
“For me, it was a decision that I made with my team,” he said. “It was kind of more logistics than anything. I wanted to do everything that I can to focus on getting ready for the draft and getting ready for whenever my name is called. I just wanted to make sure I am working out and training, so I can give my all to whatever franchise chooses me.”
Most assume that franchise will be Carolina, which holds the first overall pick. However, on Tuesday, Panthers general manager Scott Fitterer said no decision has been made.
The only knock on Young is his size. The Alabama quarterback just smiled when asked about it Wednesday.
“I think it is valid,” he said. “I get it. I think everyone is entitled to their opinion. I know what I am capable of. I’ve been playing with a lot of people who have been bigger than me my entire life. I’ve always been the smallest on the field, and I know that isn’t going to change at the next level. That’s something I’m super used to.
“On the next level, it’s about how quickly you can process. How well can you make the right decision, and how well you can get the ball out of your hands and get into play-makers hands. That is something I pride myself on. I am ready for the challenge on the next level.”
Young also took part in a “Quick Take” segment, which Alabama teammate Will Anderson took part in Tuesday.
